Welcome to La Marque, Texas

La Marque is a small but lively city in Galveston County, in the south-eastern section of the state. Located approximately 10 miles northwest of Galveston and some 40 miles south of Houston, La Marque provides an exclusive combination of suburban living together with access to the Gulf Coast and large cities. Founded initially in the late 19th century, La Marque takes its name from the French term “La Marque,” meaning “the mark,” possibly relating to an historic landmark in the area.

La Marque’s economy has historically been agricultural-based, with a focus on rice cultivation, but in the past few decades has diversified with the expansion of the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, which dominate the Houston-Galveston corridor. La Marque also enjoys the convenience of being near the Port of Galveston, one of the busiest ports in Texas.

The city has a strong sense of community, with numerous local festivals and events that unite residents year-round. It also has a variety of parks and recreational facilities, such as the La Marque City Park, which includes picnic spaces, sports fields, and walking trails.

The city has a well-developed educational component, as the La Marque Independent School District provides schooling for the families of the city. La Marque is also close to the higher education campuses, such as Texas A&M University at Galveston, which makes the city a viable location for families.
